Breakfast Recipes For When You’re On The Go

 |

It’s getting to be that time of year where the end-of-year rush reaches full swing. From the moment we open our eyes, there are millions of things to be done, gifts to be bought, and holiday parties to be attended. When our days feel so packed, it can be tempting to just want to hit the ground running and sacrifice the quality of our breakfast. But the reality is that skimping on your first meal of the day is ultimately what will leave you feeling the most depleted. Our physical and emotional health so much depends on the way we begin our day and the way that we fuel our bodies. I used to think that a truly nourishing breakfast was just too elaborate for mornings where every second counts. I’d opt for a cup of coffee and granola bar as I ran out the door, but after a while, I began to notice how my energy levels and my mental clarity were suffering. So, I started looking for ways to set myself up for success. My goal was a  high-quality breakfast that I could grab and go. I landed on three staple recipes with plenty of room for variety, and the results have been a game changer. Almost immediately, I saw an improvement in my mood, my focus, and my endurance. The best part? None of this required me to set my alarm earlier. My morning routine stayed pretty much consistent, other than that I was nourishing myself in an intentional and holistic way. Just because you’re tight on time, it doesn’t mean that you can’t fuel your body in the way that it deserves. If you want to give your mornings a major upgrade, then keep reading. You’ll be amazed at how the rest of your day unfolds!

Recipes:

  1. Overnight Oats:

This was the first recipe that truly changed my mornings. I started preparing my oats a couple of days in advance, so that when I woke up in the morning, all I had to do was open up my fridge, grab a spoon, and go. With endless variations and toppings, the possibilities are endless so you’ll never get bored. Browse some of my personal favorites, or get creative and add your own twist!

Honey Cinnamon Oats:

Ingredients:

½  cup of oats

½  cup of Original Unsweetened Oat Milk or any milk of choice

⅓  cup greek yogurt

1 Tbsp of Madhava Organic Golden Honey or other sweeteners

1 Tbsp chia

1 Tsp of cinnamon

Splash of vanilla

Directions:

Stir all ingredients in a jar, and leave in the fridge overnight. In the morning, add fruit or any toppings of your choice, and you’re good to go!

P.S: If I forget to prepare overnight oats, I love using this microwavable oatmeal by Mylk Labs!

  1. Smoothie:

The smoothie, a tried and true classic. Just like overnight oats, you can prepare your smoothies beforehand, so that in the morning all you have to do is blend your ingredients and run out the door. Simple, delicious, and leaves you feeling full for hours. If you’re looking for some smoothie inspiration, check out this suggestion:

Banana Chocolate Smoothie:

Ingredients:

1 frozen banana

Place all your ingredients in a blender friendly jar, and in the morning blend all of your ingredients together. Add any toppings of your choice, and enjoy!

  1. Smoked Salmon Bagel

So although this one can’t technically be done in advance, making it is so fast that it will be done in the time that it takes your coffee to brew. Grab a bagel, your choice of spread, some smoked salmon, and you’re on your way. Filled with omega-3 fatty acids, salmon is also known to boost your memory, focus, and mental clarity.
